The recent vaccine mandate for Southwest employees has led to massive travel delays since this weekend. Texas Governor Greg Abbot’s recent ban of this mandate puts their new policy squarely in the crosshairs.
“I GREG ABBOTT, Governor of the State of Texas, by the authority vested in me by Article III, Section 40, and Article IV, Section 8, of the Texas Constitution, do hereby present the following additional subject to the 87th Texas Legislature, Third Called Session, for consideration: Legislation establishing that no entity in Texas can compel receipt of a COVID-19 vaccine by any individual, including any employee or a consumer, who objects to such vaccination for any reason of personal conscience, based on a religious belief, or for medical reasons, including prior recovery from COVID- 19”.
This mandate is something they need to sign immediately and make it more than a mandate; make it a true law.
The delays Southwest has faced due to these mandates (despite officially saying they are not) have caused crippling issues in travel for people across the country for days, and these issues never resolve quickly when it only lasts hours; let alone days.
A mandate like this can completely change the landscape of employer overreach, and it could not come at a better time. As more and more people are standing up and saying, ‘enough is enough’ and taking this as their hill to die on. When the people are standing up like this, the Government needs to be on their side for freedom of choice.
Southwest’s corporate headquarters is in Dallas, TX, and makes them susceptible to this mandate, and subsequently the law as well. This could mean the end to the unofficial ‘sick out’ that has plagued them for days. It could also mean expensive legal battles should they challenge the legislation. Given the recent move to ban abortions in Texas, their court systems are already potentially looking at a big backlog of cases. Not to say that is a bad thing.
As America has seen more recently than before, when the Democratic party takes hold, they seek to strip more and more freedoms. This ‘we know what’s best’ mentality is constantly changing and attacks our very way of life. From gun control (remember when you could mail-order guns) to the dismantling of American history, they have historically stopped at nothing for what they want. This mindset has bled over into many corporations, many of whom benefit from quiet quid pro quo. These relationships stand to demolish the very foundation of America.
Thank God for Governor Abbot. This proud Republican will not allow companies to boss their employees around when it comes to their medical decision. By ensuring they understand that these decisions are none of their business, he is in effect giving them back the very medical autonomy the people have always had. This is a big move by a very powerful state. Now we wait to see if they will make this into State law or not. Any direction, this goes it will be something to watch.
There is one underscored story to investigate from this as well. Given this decision as well as Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’ vaccine passport mandate, could it be possible that these men have enough in common to both run for the White House in 2024?
While the immense presence both men bring to politics is nothing to sneeze at, since both cannot win the office, could two alpha Republicans work together as President and Vice President? If so this could be the return to Make America Great Again President Trump promised and took us to, but on an even broader spectrum?
